Thompson Machinery Industrial CAT Facility
Building for Growth in Middle Tennessee
Thompson Machinery partnered with Crain Construction to deliver a high-functionality sales and service hub designed to anchor their expansion in Middle Tennessee. The project centered on a 10,000-square-foot facility that integrates a two-story corporate office with heavy-duty service bays and specialized fabrication zones. By utilizing a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) system, the team achieved a cost-effective structural solution while meeting elevated municipal aesthetic standards. Crain’s proactive management was critical in bridging design gaps and ensuring the complex technical requirements of a machinery service center were met on schedule.
Project Highlights
- 10,000 SF Main Facility: A highly integrated footprint featuring six dedicated heavy equipment service bays and a two-story administrative office.
- Specialized Industrial Zones — Custom-built areas for parts storage, hose fabrication, and a large-scale training room for CAT technicians.
- Dual Accessory Structures — Construction of two detached buildings specifically designed for high-volume equipment washing and battery charging stations.
- Municipal Aesthetic Upgrades — Seamless integration of premium exterior materials required by local code into the standard PEMB structural frame.
- Proactive Design Resolution — Crain’s team identified and resolved multiple design discrepancies early in the preconstruction phase to prevent field delays.
- Complex PEMB Coordination — Expert management of communication between the building manufacturer, design team, and specialized trade partners.
