Crain’s safety program gets gold

Crain construction's gold safety award certificate framed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Crain Construction achieved gold level for its safety program that helps everyone complete their work without incident and go home safe and healthy.

The general contractor’s gold was awarded through participation in the Associated Builders and Contractors Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP), a world-class safety management system. Companies participating in ABC’s STEP measure their safety program’s progress through 25 key components, identify areas of improvement, and benchmark their performance with other ABC members.

“We strive to keep everyone safe both on and off the job site,” said Michael Rankin, president/CEO of Crain Construction. “We’re proud to achieve gold level and participate in a program like STEP to help us enhance our proactive safety practices and keep us current with safety techniques.”

Crain Construction has participated in ABC’s STEP since 1999 and has achieved gold level 10 times.

Through STEP, companies track and review activities carried out to prevent and control injury including best practices like toolbox safety meetings, new hire safety orientation, substance abuse programs, behavior-based safety observations, and top management engagement. According to ABC, STEP helps companies reduce recordable incidents by up to 85 percent.
