5 Successful Commercial Construction Partnerships

For the past 90 years, Crain Construction has aligned our efforts around a simple concept: to build relationships and structures that last a lifetime. As an employee-owned, Nashville-based construction firm, we believe our work goes beyond constructing buildings. Instead, it’s about creating relationships built on the value of doing the right thing with passion, communication, and a client-focused perspective. We’re proud of the reputation we’ve built and grateful for the construction partnerships we’ve developed across the industry with developers, project owners, architects, and trade partners.

With each project, our team pours their heart and soul into their work, understanding that it’s not just a structure being built but a dream being realized. Our commitment to putting relationships first is a big reason why 85% of our work comes from repeat clients who trust us and have seen the value in developing long-term construction partnerships. In commemoration of our 90th anniversary in the construction industry, we wanted to highlight a few of the partners we’ve had the opportunity to work with.

Feintool

Feintool is an international forming and fine blanking company with more than 20 facilities worldwide. In 2007, we had the opportunity to build a major expansion to their Tennessee location in Antioch.

The initial construction project opened the door for multiple expansion efforts, including a 40,000-square-foot expansion with new office space in 2014 and foundation work in 2020.

Our team is currently working on a third expansion. The $26 million, 47,000 sq ft. expansion will increase their plant size by 25% as part of Feintool’s strategic transformation towards an electrified future.

Get a closer look at our relationship with Feintool and explore the details of their first two expansions in this project spotlight.

Publix

Successfully building a new grocery store requires an in-depth understanding of zoning, design, layout, and vendor management to deliver a high-quality store that meets the chain’s branding standards and customer expectations. At Crain, we had the privilege of building the first Publix location in the state of Tennessee.

Since then, our team has served as the general contractor for more than 31 Publix projects, ranging from retrofits to renovations to new builds. We’re honored to have a repeat client like Publix as the company expands its footprint in Middle Tennessee.

Take a behind-the-scenes look at our East Nashville Publix project in this spotlight.

H.G. Hill

If you’ve been in Nashville for any time at all, you’ve likely visited an H.G. Hill development. As a six-generation family-owned and operated company, H.G. Hill Company has been a cornerstone of our community since 1895.

We’ve partnered with H.G. Hill on more than a dozen projects over the years — including Publix multi-use developments and The Gateway at Armory Oaks

Southeast Venture

Our partnership with commercial real estate developer Southeast Venture is meaningful for several different reasons. Both companies are Nashville institutions. When Southeast Venture launched, Crain Construction’s Charles Gill worked with J.E. Crain to plan and build several iconic projects in Nashville. Along with 40+ years of partnership, both of our companies share values that inform the way we work with each other and with our clients.

We’ve partnered with their architecture group on multiple client projects as well as Southeast Venture’s own headquarters in the Armory Oaks area.

Chartwell Hospitality

Over the past 20 years, Chartwell Hospitality has grown into one of the most successful hospitality development companies in the southeast. We’ve worked with Chartwell on several noteworthy projects, including the 1st and Main development in downtown Franklin and Hilton Hotel in Franklin, TN, and Hilton Hotel in Alpharetta, GA.

Currently, our team is serving as the general contractor on the historic BNA Hilton Hotel at the Nashville International Airport. As the first airport-related project for either company, we’re grateful for the trust and proven communication process we’ve developed with the team at Chartwell.

Hear from Chartwell Hospitality’s Robert Schaedle about what the partnership with Crain has meant over the years.
