Village Green Mixed Use Retail Construction

A cottage-style retail center built around heavy infrastructure, tight utilities, and environmental stewardship.

Project Summary

What looks like a simple neighborhood shopping center required complex coordination behind the scenes. Located at the intersection of Nolensville Road and Rocky Fork Road, Village Green was designed to feel more like a walkable village than a traditional retail strip, with residential-style buildings, storefront windows, and parking tucked discreetly behind the shops.

Delivering that vision meant relocating major utilities, working around congested underground infrastructure, and boring beneath Mill Creek to protect a sensitive wildlife habitat. Through proactive planning and constant communication with stakeholders, Crain kept the project moving and delivered the center on schedule. The result is a community-focused development that blends thoughtful design with serious problem-solving.

Project Highlights

  • Extensive coordination with multiple utility providers to relocate power, telecom, gas, and water infrastructure
  • Careful excavation around a 20-inch water main and active natural gas transmission lines
  • Environmental protection measures while boring under Mill Creek, home to the protected Nashville crayfish
  • Cottage-style architectural design that prioritizes pedestrian experience and hides parking from view
