Crain wins top construction excellence award for Towneplace Suites

Crain leaders holding Eagle Award trophy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Crain Construction won top honors for Excellence in Construction from Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Tennessee for its work on TownePlace Suites by Marriott.

ABC’s Eagle Award was given to Crain Construction for using creative solutions to overcome challenges the general contractor faced while building the urban, 10-story, TownePlace Suites hotel.

The hotel straddles the Kerrigan Tunnel, Nashville’s oldest and longest combined sewer/stormwater tunnel, which cuts through a large portion of the hotel’s footprint. The 193-room hotel and parking garage is on Charlotte Avenue, near I-40 and downtown Nashville.

“Our team faced multiple challenges working in a tight site on top of a tunnel more than a century old,” said Michael Rankin, Crain Construction CEO and president. “We overcame those challenges by being very intentional, doing a lot of creative problem solving, and leveraging relationships with subcontractors to set the project up for success.”

3H Group was developer for the hotel designed by Winford Lindsay and Associates.

Crain Construction received the Eagle Award during the annual ABC Excellence in Construction Awards at the Omni Hotel on November 4. The awards program honored the “best of the best” through an independently judged competition of submitted construction projects. EIC awards honor contractors, project architects, engineers and owners.
