Crain to build new headquarters for speciality dental brands

Newly Developed Specialty Dental Headquarters

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Crain Construction is building out a new headquarters for Specialty Dental Brands in a former lumber mill at 5320 Centennial Blvd.

Built in 1940s, the two-story structure was gutted and redeveloped in 2019 for office space. Crain Construction crews will be building out 15,000-plus square feet of space with 26-foot-high ceilings on the second floor of the Silo Studios building for the dental services organization.

Work will include adding interior partitions, installing all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing, and putting in new sub-flooring and finish flooring on top. The finished space will have multiple offices, three kitchen areas, meeting and training spaces, and a new entryway to the offices. The bowtruss ceilings will remain exposed.

“With current supply chain issues, we’ll have to temporarily condition the space by other means, do the construction and then set the rooftop units in place when they arrive,” said James Williams, Crain Construction project manager. “We knew it would take 12 weeks for the units to arrive, but due to current logistics that has stretched to a 24-week wait.”

Williams and his team did early buyouts and have been aggressive in ordering materials to manage the cost escalation. He said flexibility during planning and ongoing, open communication with the owner have been key in managing expectations.

STG Design is the architect for the project and Wilson Girgenti LLC is the MEP engineer.
